A once basic system turned into a Power House
Taking a basic solar system and turning it into a Power House.
The Moats' Family project began with a home that already had an existing solar installation in place. The original system was a basic setup consisting of a single inverter and a limited number of solar panels, providing partial energy offset but no backup capability or load control. When we were brought in, the homeowner’s goal was to expand beyond simple solar production and move toward true energy independence. We designed and installed an additional section of solar panels to significantly increase on-site generation and fully integrated the expanded system with a Tesla Powerwall 3 to enable whole-home battery backup. To give the homeowner precise control over how power is used during outages, we also installed a SPAN smart panel, allowing individual circuits and critical loads to be managed independently. Taking resiliency a step further, we added a Point Guard Energy system utilizing a DC-to-DC EV charging connection, enabling the homeowner’s electric vehicle to serve as an additional full-home backup power source. The result is a fully integrated energy system that combines expanded solar production, intelligent load management, battery storage, and EV-based backup into a single, resilient solution built for long-term reliability.
